A club with history.
On 20 January 2023 Memphis was presented as an Atlético Madrid player. ‘It’s a very big club, with an impressive history, a good team and very good players,’ he said. He made his debut off the bench in a 3–0 win over Real Valladolid.
His first goal was worth its weight in gold. On 12 February 2023, away at Celta de Vigo, he scored the only goal of the game in the 89th minute, while Atlético were down to ten men.
In August 2023 he came on as a substitute against Granada and fired in the 2–1 from around 25 metres. The fans voted it LaLiga Goal of the Month, and Memphis was also named man of the match.
His biggest night came on 13 March 2024 in the Champions League. Coming off the bench against Inter, he scored the 2–1 in the 87th minute to level the tie on aggregate. He also converted his kick in the penalty shoot-out, and Atlético reached the quarter-finals. When he said goodbye, he said he keeps the good memories close to his heart.
