The story
Shirt number 19. The Johan Cruijff ArenA.
In May 2018 Labyad signed a four-year contract with Ajax. There he was reunited with an old acquaintance: coach Erik ten Hag, with whom he had worked so well in Utrecht. He was given shirt number 19.
His first season ended with the double. Ajax won the league title and, on 5 May 2019 at De Kuip, beat Willem II 0–4 in the cup final, with Labyad coming on as a substitute.
On 10 November 2019 he made his comeback, against none other than FC Utrecht. He provided the assist for Donny van de Beek’s 3–0. "I never lost hope," he said afterwards.
The 2020/21 season became his best in Amsterdam. On 28 November 2020, away at FC Emmen, he volleyed a lofted pass from Davy Klaassen first time into the top corner, and on 20 January 2021 he scored the only goal in the cup match at AZ. Ajax were champions once again. In 2022 his third league title followed.
